But today, it is actively managed as a conservation area. The villagers who were relocated from the Moremi Game Reserve at the time of its establishment took over the area. The local community now actively runs ecotourism initiativesin the concession, manages its wildlife and conserve the environment.

Linyati Wildlife Reserve

Between Namibia and Botswana, on the southern banks of the Linyanti River, is the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve that forms a natural border between both countries. This private concession boasts a splendid variation of pristine habitat including riverine forest, untouched grasslands and meandering lagoons. In comparison to its neighbouring protected areas in the south, Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park in the east, Linyanti remains largely unexplored with a high concentration of game. Due to the remote location of this 1,250 sq km protected reserve, every corner is bursting with wildlife which is simply astounding in not just the dry season but the wet season too. During the green season, avid bird enthusiasts and bird photographers will be awestruck as thousands of exotic birds migrate to this region. On the banks of the Linyanti river Carmine bee-eaters can often be seen nesting.
